Using history to craft compelling stories

Welcome! I’m Lindsey Weaver.

For the last decade I have dedicated my professional time and energy to exploring historical questions and attempting to answer them through compelling narratives. I worked for eight years at Historical Research Associates, Inc. (HRA), one of the country’s oldest and most well-known historical consulting firms. During that time, I expanded and developed my skills in historical research and writing. Although I initially worked largely on environmental litigation projects, I quickly grew to love any opportunity to work on hyper local histories focused on a specific topic or location. In this vein, I wrote several historic contexts in collaboration with architectural historians and archaeologists in HRA’s Cultural Resources Management (CRM) Division. You can read about some of these projects in the Project Gallery.

Early in 2023, my family decided to make the move from Washington State to my husband’s hometown in Vermont. As a result, I left my work at HRA and created my own consulting company in my new Vermont home. As HistoryWeaver, LLC, I provide a range of historical consulting services, including researching and writing the local histories that I have grown to love. I also provide general historical research services (including property and title searches), copyediting, and fact-checking for academic manuscripts. Ultimately, I seek to use history to craft compelling stories.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Historian, Historical Research Associates, Inc., Seattle, Washington
April 2015–March 2023

While at HRA, I worked on projects ranging from environmental litigation to organizational histories to focused local narratives. To identify relevant primary sources, I frequently conducted research in local, state, and national archives as well as online databases such as Ancestry.com, Newspapers.com, and Hathi Trust. In my litigation work, I helped our clients sort through and distill large volumes of information to create strong arguments framed within the appropriate historical context. I also helped to research and write several U.S. Army Corps of Engineers administrative histories, as well as natural resource use histories of Native American Indian Reservations. I especially enjoyed writing location and topic-specific historic contexts for Cultural Resources Management projects.

Historic Preservation Fellow, Historic Preservation Office, Greeley, Colorado
August 2014–January 2015

After graduating with my Master’s degree, I spent several months as a fellow in the City of Greeley Historic Preservation Office. I assisted the City’s Historic Preservation Specialist to research and prepare reports for the Historic Preservation Commission regarding review of applications for designation of and alterations to properties on the Greeley Historic Register. I attended meetings with local community groups and other stakeholders with an interest in historic preservation. I also engaged in public outreach to share Greeley’s history with the community and encourage greater understanding of the role and importance of historic preservation to the City’s future.
